GEORGE CHINNERY AND HORRIFIC CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN KENT
George Chinnery, aged 22 and residing on Anne of Cleves Road, was convicted of heinous crimes involving a young boy and received a formal sentence at St Albans Crown Court. The court proceedings revealed that Chinnery had committed these disturbing offences back in 2013, when he was only 14 years old, in the Welwyn Hatfield area of Hertfordshire.
The allegations included oral rape and coercion of the victim into inappropriate touching, acts that took place during the summer holidays when the perpetrator and victim were alone.
The brutal abuse lasted over a certain period, causing profound emotional trauma for the victim.
Despite the severity of the crimes, the victim did not feel able to speak out immediately and only disclosed the abuse in mid-2020, after receiving mental health support.
It was only then that he confided in a close family member, revealing the full extent of Chinnery’s actions.
The court heard that Chinnery has shown no remorse for his actions and continues to deny the allegations.
His denial led to a demanding seven-day trial, during which the defense cross-examined the victim, adding to the emotional distress faced by both the victim and his family.
Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Joint Child Protection Investigation Team, led by Detective Constable Laurence Harwood, emphasized the lasting impact of the abuse.
Harwood stated, “The victim in this case has suffered unimaginably due to Chinnery’s abhorrent actions, and it has negatively impacted his mental health for nearly ten years.” Harwood further expressed admiration for the victim’s bravery, noting, “The victim finally felt able to tell someone he trusted about what Chinnery had done to him, which took remarkable courage.” The detective also highlighted the importance of justice, stating, “This result will hopefully allow the victim to find closure so he can begin to rebuild his life.” Following his conviction, Chinnery was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely and was instructed not to come within five miles of the victim’s residence.
Upon release from prison, he will remain on license for a period of seven years, ensuring close monitoring of his actions.
While authorities acknowledge the legal victory, they also recognize that no ruling can undo the trauma experienced by the victim.
Detective Harwood concluded with a message of support and hope, expressing wishes for the victim and his family to find peace in the future, despite the enduring scars left by the abuse.
