GEORGE AUSTIN-BOHAN SENTENCED FOR BLACKMAIL AND CHILD INDECENCY OFFENCES IN LONDON
A resident of east London has been sentenced to prison following a series of serious criminal activities that included online blackmail, drug distribution, and the dissemination of indecent images of a child. The individual, identified as 28-year-old George Austin-Bohan, was involved in a range of offending behaviors that caused significant distress to his victims.
The court heard that Austin-Bohan had threatened to publish explicit photographs of a minor on social media platforms.
These images had been obtained without the knowledge or consent of the child, escalating the severity of his misconduct.
The threats to release the images were part of ongoing criminal efforts to extort money, as court records reveal that in the years 2018 and 2020 he demanded payments from two separate women via online communication, explicitly warning that he would upload indecent images of a child on Instagram if his demands were not met.
In addition to these offences, Austin-Bohan was convicted of possessing controlled substances with intent to supply.
Specifically, he was found in possession of cocaine and MDMA, both class A drugs, which are associated with significant legal penalties due to their high potency and potential for abuse.
The investigation into his activities intensified in September 2022 when authorities executed a search warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at a residential address located in Tower Hamlets, an area within London.
During this operation, law enforcement officials uncovered illegal drugs with an estimated street value ranging between £10,000 and £15,000.
In addition to the narcotics, over £7,000 in cash was seized as proceeds of drug trafficking.
Austin-Bohan was detained at the scene, confirming his connection to the premises and the illicit activities taking place there.
Following a thorough trial and sentencing, Austin-Bohan received a prison term of five years and three months.
His sentence was imposed for three counts of blackmail, malicious communications, distribution of indecent images of children, as well as four charges related to the supply of controlled substances.
The court also issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order against him, which will restrict his activities and require ongoing supervision.
Furthermore, Austin-Bohan has been ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, a measure aimed at monitoring and controlling his future conduct regarding sexual offences.
The authorities seized his electronic devices for forensic analysis, which confirmed the presence of digital evidence supporting his conviction on multiple counts.
Detective Constable Lindsey England of the Metropolitan Police’s Central East Command emphasized the gravity of Austin-Bohan’s actions.
She highlighted that the offences involved vile and deeply distressing conduct that impacted numerous victims.
Detective England also noted the extensive digital forensic efforts required to build the case, underscoring the importance of victims’ bravery in coming forward.
She expressed hope that the sentence would serve as a form of justice for those affected and urged the public to report online sexual offences, stressing that support systems are available for victims.
She reaffirmed the police’s commitment to tackling such heinous crimes and protecting vulnerable individuals from exploitation and harm.
