GEORGE SEAGRAVE FROM MELTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES IN LEICESTER
In a case that has shocked the local community of Melton, 66-year-old Geoffrey Seagrave has been sentenced to serve 16 months in prison after admitting to downloading over 300 indecent images of children. The court proceedings revealed the disturbing extent of his actions, which led to his arrest and subsequent conviction.Authorities executed a search at Seagrave’s residence on Wicklow Avenue, Melton, in April of the previous year. During the raid, police confiscated two laptops that were used by Seagrave to access and download the illegal material. The investigation uncovered that he had been involved in this activity over a period of time, raising serious concerns about his conduct and the safety of minors.
At Leicester Crown Court, Seagrave pleaded guilty to eight counts of making indecent images of children through downloading. During questioning, he attempted to deflect responsibility by suggesting that an unknown individual might have been using his wireless internet connection without his knowledge. However, the evidence presented was sufficient to establish his guilt beyond doubt.
The court also took into account Seagrave’s criminal history, which includes a previous conviction from 1997. In that case, he was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for indecently assaulting a girl and filming her inappropriately. This prior conviction underscored the seriousness of his current offenses and the potential risk he posed to the community.
James House, representing Seagrave, acknowledged his client’s attempts to minimize his actions and shift blame. Nonetheless, he emphasized that Seagrave had accepted full responsibility for his behavior and recognized that his motivation was rooted in sexual gratification, indicating a clear problem that needed addressing.
While Seagrave’s family expressed their shock and disappointment at his conduct, they also stated that they continued to support him during this difficult time. The judge, Christopher Metcalf, responded by imposing a sexual offences prevention order. This order restricts Seagrave’s contact with individuals under the age of 18 and limits his access to computers, with both measures being subject to ongoing monitoring by authorities to prevent further offenses.
