GEORGE RAVENSCRAFT'S SHOCKING SEXUAL ABUSE IN HEYWOOD AND BLACKPOOL REVEALED

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Heywood and beyond, Geoffrey Ravenscroft, a former bus and coach driver, has been convicted of historic sexual offenses involving two young girls. The disturbing incidents took place over two decades, with the first occurring in 1979 and the second in 1996, yet both victims only found the courage to come forward last year, decades after the abuse occurred.

Ravenscroft, who resided on Pilsworth Road in Heywood, was initially identified as a perpetrator after the victims reported their experiences to the police. The first victim, who was a young girl at the time, was subjected to Ravenscroft’s abuse while he was working as a lorry driver. Over a series of encounters, he forced her to perform sexual acts on him on multiple occasions, leaving a lasting impact on her life. The second incident took place in 1996, when Ravenscroft was employed as a coach driver. After dropping off passengers in Blackpool, he coerced a different young girl into performing a sex act on him, further compounding his pattern of predatory behavior.

It was only after the victims discovered Ravenscroft was working as a school bus driver that they decided to report their experiences to the authorities. Their bravery in coming forward was instrumental in bringing him to justice. Ravenscroft, aged 62 at the time of sentencing, pleaded guilty to a total of 12 counts of indecency with a child and one count of indecent assault during his court appearance at Bolton Crown Court. His guilty plea marked a significant step in addressing the long-standing abuse allegations.

On Friday, Ravenscroft was sentenced to three years in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. The sentencing reflects the seriousness with which the court viewed his crimes and the importance of protecting vulnerable children from such predators.

Detective Constable Kirsty Simcox expressed her commendation for the victims’ bravery, stating, “These women have been incredibly brave by coming forward and ensuring that Ravenscroft has been jailed. We must not underestimate the strength it took to make that decision but the fact these women wanted to make sure he could not hurt any other child outweighed any misgivings they had and I commend them for that.”

She also emphasized the police’s commitment to addressing all reports of sexual abuse, regardless of how much time has passed.
