DUNFERMLINE WOMAN GEMMA CAMERON'S FAKE CLAIMS BACKFIRE AT SHERIFF COURT
A woman from Dunfermline, Gemma Cameron, attempted to falsely accuse her ex-partner of wrongdoing to police, but her scheme ultimately backfired, resulting in her appearing before Dunfermline Sheriff Court.Cameron, 36, of Lapwing Drive, pleaded guilty to making false reports to police on October 13 last year at Tesco on Aberdour Road.
She admitted to wasting police time and resources by claiming her former partner had breached his bail conditions.
Prosecutor Lauren Pennycook explained that Cameron had reported to police that her ex had threatened her in a car park and had followed her in his car after the alleged incident.
However, CCTV footage from the store contradicted her claims, showing the man was in the car park but did not approach or threaten Cameron.
Defence solicitor Ian Beatson explained that the actual incident involved the ex shouting at Cameron’s new boyfriend.
Cameron, he said, “foolishly made the allegation that she was the one he’d shouted at,” adding that she is “regretful for her conduct.” Sheriff Susan Duff emphasized the seriousness of wasting police time, noting that Cameron’s false claims could have led to her ex-partner’s arrest.
However, given her display of “considerable remorse,” she chose to admonish her rather than impose a harsher penalty.
