SERIAL SEX OFFENDER GAVIN WRIGHT JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER BRUTAL ATTACK IN DUNFERMLINE
A serial sex offender known as Gavin Wright, aged 30, was sentenced to life imprisonment after attacking a young woman in Dunfermline, Fife.Wright had a troubling history of sexual violence, having first committed an assault in 1984.
He was subsequently jailed twice for sex assaults, in 1989 and 1991.
Within weeks of his latest release, Wright assaulted a woman walking home late at night by hitting her across the head with a bottle, pulling her to the ground, and kicking her.
This attack was so violent that her face was swollen beyond recognition.
A neighbor heard her screams and held onto Wright until police arrived, leading to his arrest and conviction.During the trial, the court was informed of Wright's extensive criminal record, which included a conviction in 1984 for assault with intent to rape, an eight-month sentence, and a three-year sentence in 1989 for a similar attack.
After being released in 1991, he raped a teenage barmaid in Dundee.
Despite this, Wright was released again in June of that year, only to reoffend within days.
The judge, Lord Bonomy, noted that Wright's background was "chilling" and recommended he serve a minimum of 12 years.
He expressed concern that Wright feared he might still kill in future crimes.
Immediately after the sentencing, the victim, aged 26, expressed her fear and distress, stating, "I was always a trusting person and I always took people on face value but now I am very, very wary.
I find that if I'm out during the day and I see a male walking towards me I note his height and clothes.
I am pleased he will not get out for a long time because he is a danger and is very violent.
By making me give evidence he proved he has no remorse." The judge's verdict and Wright's dangerous conduct underscored the threat he posed to society.
