Wallisdown Animal Abuser
Gary Trevor, a resident of Canford Avenue in Bournemouth, specifically from the Wallisdown area, was found guilty of severe animal cruelty involving his two Rottweiler dogs, Onyx and Star. The case, which drew significant attention from local animal welfare authorities, highlighted the tragic neglect and suffering inflicted upon these animals due to Trevor's failure to provide proper care.

According to reports, Trevor pleaded guilty to charges of causing unnecessary suffering to his dogs. The investigation was initiated after RSPCA inspectors visited his home and discovered the dire condition of the animals. Onyx had already succumbed to his suffering, having died from untreated medical issues, while Star was found in a state of extreme emaciation, weighing nearly half of her previous healthy weight. Despite her initial weight gain, Star was suffering from persistent pain, with enlarged joints indicating severe health problems, which ultimately led to her being humanely euthanized to end her misery.

Inspector Graham Hammond provided a detailed account of the distressing scene. He stated, “This is a sad and preventable case of two dogs, Star and Onyx, suffering from Mr Trevor’s failure to act. Onyx was left to simply die in front of Mr Trevor, due to untreated medical conditions which any reasonable dog owner should have recognized. Onyx was emaciated when he died and Mr Trevor failed to seek any veterinary help, from the free vets he was already registered with at the PDSA. Star can only be described as close to death when the RSPCA became involved. She was collapsed, emaciated and passing clotted blood.”

Further details revealed that, shortly before Onyx’s death, a neighbor had commented on the dogs’ appearance, noting that they looked like whippets because of how thin they were. Despite this observation, Trevor did not seek veterinary assistance. The inspector emphasized the extent of the animals’ suffering, noting that both dogs lived in close proximity to Trevor, who continued to eat and drink in front of them while they endured neglect. The dogs’ weights were alarming: both weighed between 21.65 and 25.5 kilograms, with Star having lost nearly half her previous weight and Onyx losing over 30% of his body weight.

Inspector Hammond expressed his sadness over cases like this, stating, “When there is so much help and assistance available, I find these cases particularly sad and hard to deal with. Thankfully, these animals are not suffering anymore.”

In terms of sentencing, Trevor was ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid community service. He was also required to pay a total of £260 in costs and charges related to the case. Additionally, he received a ban from owning or keeping any animals for a period of ten years, a restriction that will remain in effect until February 2027.
