GARY TEAGUE GETS 22-AND-A-HALF YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN KENT
Gary Teague, a 58-year-old former foster carer from Ramsgate, Kent, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 22 and a half years after a court found him guilty of a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse and rape of five children over a period spanning more than a decade.The case was heard at Canterbury Crown Court, where the severity of his actions and the betrayal of trust were brought into sharp focus.
During the proceedings, Teague faced 14 charges related to his misconduct, all occurring over an 11-year timeframe.
These charges included six counts of rape, three counts of gross indecency, two counts of indecent assault, one count of inciting a young girl to engage in sexual activity, one sexual assault, and one count of administering a substance to stupefy or overpower a victim to facilitate sexual activity.
Although Teague initially denied all allegations, the jury deliberated and ultimately found him guilty on all charges except for the count involving the administration of a substance to stupefy or overpower a victim, which will be formally recorded but not prosecuted further.
Judge Heather Norton addressed Teague directly during sentencing, emphasizing that he would be required to serve two-thirds of his custodial term before eligibility for parole.
Upon his release, he will be subject to a license period lasting four and a half years.
Additionally, the court imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order that prevents Teague from contacting any of his victims—either directly or indirectly—indefinitely.
The investigation and subsequent prosecution revealed the callousness with which Teague exploited his position of trust.
Detective Constable Jenny Brightman highlighted the grim realities of his crimes, stating, “These offences all occurred while Gary Teague was alone with the children.
He callously told his victims that they wouldn’t be believed and that they would be in trouble if they told anyone what had happened.” Brightman further noted Teague’s persistent denial of guilt throughout the investigation, despite the consistent and courageous testimony provided by the victims.
The victims, who endured emotional scars from Teague’s abuse, demonstrated remarkable bravery by coming forward to tell their stories.
Detective Constable Brightman paid tribute to their courage, underscoring the seriousness with which Kent Police treat all allegations of sexual abuse, regardless of when they occurred.
The police force, equipped with specialized teams, works tirelessly to ensure justice is achieved and perpetrators are held accountable.
Expressing hope for future victims, Brightman emphasized, “I hope other victims of this type of abuse will have the confidence to come forward, safe in the knowledge that they will be treated with the utmost care and understanding.” The substantial sentence handed down to Teague underscores the legal system’s commitment to safeguarding children and punishing those who violate this trust.
It is also important to note that Teague’s criminal record includes a prior conviction from September 2016, where he was found guilty of offences involving two separate children.
In that case, he pleaded guilty to two counts of making an indecent photo of a child and was convicted after a trial at Canterbury Crown Court.
He also faced charges for abusing a position of trust and recording private acts, ultimately being sentenced to two years and three months in prison at that time, reflecting a pattern of abusive behavior over many years.
