GARY STAMP KENT POLICE OFFICER FIRED OVER SEXUAL MISCONDUCT IN KENT
In a serious case of professional misconduct, Detective Sergeant Gary Stamp, a member of Kent Police, was found to have engaged in inappropriate sexual behavior involving a junior female officer at a police station in Kent during the year 2020.According to an investigation conducted by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), it was established that Stamp had touched the female officer in a manner that was clearly inappropriate and unprofessional.
The IOPC's findings, as confirmed by director Mel Palmer, described Stamp's actions as dishonest, unprofessional, and wholly unacceptable within the standards expected of police personnel.
Following the investigation, a misconduct hearing held by Kent Police found Stamp guilty of the allegations.
As a result, he was dismissed from his position without notice, marking a significant disciplinary action against a police officer.
The IOPC further revealed that Stamp had attempted to persuade the female officer not to report his misconduct after she expressed her objections, indicating an effort to conceal his inappropriate behavior.
Despite the findings and the evidence presented, the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to pursue criminal charges of sexual assault against Stamp.
This decision was based on the available evidence and legal considerations, but it did not diminish the severity of the misconduct as recognized by the police force.
Kent Police issued a statement emphasizing that Stamp had denied all allegations made against him.
The force also noted that the incident involved Stamp pursuing a personal relationship with the colleague involved, which was deemed unprofessional and unacceptable.
This case highlights Kent Police’s ongoing commitment to maintaining high standards of conduct among its officers and its dedication to addressing issues related to violence against women and girls.
The force reaffirmed that such behavior has no place within policing and reiterated its stance on zero tolerance for misconduct of this nature.
