A man from Essex who subjected a young victim to years of abuse and manipulation has been jailed.
On December 1, Gary Staines, 66, of Marks Hall Lane, Margaret Roding, appeared before Chelmsford Crown Court and received a sentence of 19 years imprisonment for offences committed in the 1990s, spanning nine years.
The victim, who demonstrated remarkable courage, contacted Essex Police in June 2020 to report her ordeal, which led to an investigation by the police’s specialised quest team.
The abuse inflicted by Staines began in 1991 and involved extended manipulation of the minor.
Following detailed investigations, police arrested and brought charges against Staines for four counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14 and one count of incitement to commit an act of gross indecency.
His trial was held at Chelmsford Crown Court, concluding on November 1.
After being convicted, he appeared in court again yesterday and was sentenced to 19 years in prison with an additional one-year extended licence.
