GARY ROBCOY FROM LONDON DEPORTED FROM THAILAND IN CRACKDOWN ON FOREIGN PEDOPHILES
In June 2010, a significant development occurred in Thailand's efforts to combat the presence of foreign sex offenders within its borders.British national Gary Robcoy, aged 30 and originally from Wapping in East London, became the first convicted paedophile to be deported from Thailand as part of a broader crackdown on foreign individuals involved in child abuse.
Robcoy's deportation was not based on any recent offences committed within Thailand itself.
Instead, it was solely due to his criminal record in the United Kingdom, which included a conviction for child abuse.
This move marked a new initiative by the Thai government, which has been actively collaborating with UK authorities to identify and remove individuals with such criminal backgrounds from Thai territory.
Robcoy was employed as a computer science and English teacher at Potisarn Pittayakorn School in Bangkok.
His presence in Thailand had raised concerns, especially given his criminal history.
Authorities acted swiftly once his background was known, leading to his arrest and subsequent deportation.
He was placed on a British Airways flight departing from Bangkok back to London, effectively ending his stay in Thailand.
This deportation was a clear message from Thai officials that the country would not tolerate individuals with a history of child abuse, regardless of whether they had committed offences within Thailand or abroad.
An immigration official involved in the operation stated, “This is a new initiative.
Thailand should not put its children at risk by allowing these people to come to our country.” The move signifies Thailand’s commitment to protecting its youth and ensuring that foreign nationals with criminal records related to child abuse are not permitted to remain within its borders.
