NEWTOWN MAN JAILED FOR STALKING AND INTIMIDATING EX-GIRLFRIEND
A resident of Newtown has received a prison sentence after engaging in a lengthy period of stalking and harassment directed at his former partner following their breakup.Gary Richard Suff, aged 31, subjected Natasha Morris to emotional manipulation, threats, and abusive communications over a span of one month.
During this period, he also made threats to self-harm and to disseminate private videos of her.
Court reports indicated that Suff's actions were influenced by his dependence on alcohol and cocaine, with the judge noting his 'self-destructive state' following the end of their relationship in December 2020.
It was presented in court that after Natasha ended the relationship, she attempted to support him through his mental health struggles; however, in April, Suff began sending her threatening, abusive, and aggressive messages.
These included phone calls during which he displayed self-inflicted injuries and discussed drug use.
He was detained by police on May 1, and his phone was seized as evidence.
Although he was released on bail, he later re-engaged with her, attempting to persuade her to drop legal charges and warning her about the dangers related to drugs.
Suff was re-arrested and denied making the subsequent phone call.
A victim impact statement from Natasha detailed feelings of being diminished and consumed with anger and hatred toward Suff due to her ordeal.
The court imposed an 18-month prison sentence—nine months each for the offenses of stalking and intimidation, to be served consecutively—and issued a five-year restraining order preventing contact with Miss Morris.
The judge recognized Suff's remorse and difficult personal circumstances, including family issues and substance abuse history, noting that he had been in custody since his second arrest.
