GARY GOODMAN FROM RUGBY ESCAPES JAIL AFTER CHILD ABUSE IMAGE SCANDAL IN RUGBY
In a case that has shocked the community of Rugby, Warwickshire, Gary Goodman, a 60-year-old resident of Millers Dale Close, narrowly avoided a prison sentence after being found guilty of possessing and creating indecent images of children. The incident came to light in March 2019 when police officers executed a search warrant at Goodman’s flat, which was described by officers as being 'dirty, dusty, and cluttered.' During the raid, authorities discovered a printed indecent image depicting a pre-pubescent child, along with a collection of digital evidence stored on multiple devices.
These included a computer tower, an additional computer, an external hard drive, a USB stick, and two damaged devices.
The seized equipment contained a disturbing total of 82 still images and three videos classified as Category A, indicating the most serious level of child exploitation material.
Additionally, there were 66 images categorized as Category B, along with an alarming 3,546 still images of children in naked or indecent poses.
Among these, investigators also found two images involving a woman engaged in acts of bestiality.
When questioned during police interviews, Goodman attempted to deflect responsibility by suggesting that the printed image might have been left at his flat by a friend who had visited.
He also implied that a friend, whom he did not identify, might have used his devices to access or store such material.
However, evidence showed that the images were organized into various folders with labels such as ‘girls partly dressed’ and ‘naked girls,’ indicating deliberate collection and categorization.
Further investigation revealed that Goodman had a troubling history, including a conviction for indecently assaulting a five-year-old girl when he was a teenager.
The police also uncovered that Goodman had conducted online searches for content including ‘Lolita porn,’ which added to the severity of his case.
In court, Goodman pleaded guilty to three charges of making indecent images of children and one charge of possessing extreme pornography.
The judge, Recorder Charles Foster, sentenced him to nine months in prison, suspended for two years.
Goodman was also ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work and participate in a rehabilitation program.
Additionally, he was mandated to register as a sex offender for ten years.
The judge issued a stern warning, stating, “You have been lucky.
Don’t blow this opportunity,” emphasizing the importance of Goodman’s compliance and rehabilitation moving forward.
