GARY FOX AND HIS SHOCKING SEXUAL ABUSE IN LANCASHIRE
A man from Lancashire who engaged in serious and repeated sexual misconduct against a minor has been sentenced to prison after his crimes came to light. The individual, identified as Gary Fox, aged 62 and residing on Clifton Drive North, was convicted of seven counts of indecent assault at Preston Crown Court in September.
The allegations revealed that during the late 1990s, Fox was working as a private music instructor in the Lancashire area, specifically in St Annes, when he exploited his position of trust to prey on a young girl.
The victim, only 14 years old at the time, was subjected to multiple sexual assaults by Fox over a period of time.
The investigation uncovered that Fox’s inappropriate conduct began with making suggestive comments towards the girl and then progressed to physical abuse.
This behavior not only betrayed the professional boundary he was supposed to uphold but also inflicted lasting harm on the victim.
The police investigation was led by Mick Cross, an officer with Lancashire Police’s public protection unit.
Cross expressed his remarks on the case, emphasizing the significance of the victim’s bravery in coming forward.
He stated, “Gary Fox, a married man, made a deliberate decision to pursue a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl.
He must have known that this was wrong, especially as she was his student and he had a duty of care towards her.
It did not stop him.
He effectively groomed and then sexually assaulted a child in order to satisfy his own sexual urges.” Cross further highlighted the importance of justice for victims of sexual abuse, especially those who have endured such trauma years earlier.
“I would like to commend the bravery of the victim for having the courage to effectively relive her ordeal through these court proceedings.
I hope that the conviction and sentence give her some sense that justice has been achieved after all this time and that it encourages others who may have suffered similar abuse to come forward with confidence that they will be taken seriously and professionally supported in their pursuit of justice,” he said.
The case also drew comments from Howard Gough, who leads the North West CPS Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Unit.
Gough reiterated that Fox exploited his authoritative position as a private music tutor to manipulate his young student for his personal sexual gratification.
“Gary Fox was in a position of trust as a music teacher when he exploited a young girl for his own sexual gratification,” Gough explained.
“I would like to commend this brave woman for finding the courage to stand up to the man who manipulated and abused her all those years ago, and for her ongoing support of the police investigation and subsequent successful prosecution of him.
I wish her the best for her future, safe in the knowledge that a very dangerous man is now serving a prison sentence thanks to her strength and fortitude in standing up to him.” The legal proceedings and subsequent conviction serve as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding minors and the devastating impact that abuse by trusted individuals can have on victims.
Fox’s case underscores the need for vigilance and accountability, especially in professions that involve close contact with children in the Lancashire region.
