GARY EDGE AND SHOCKING SEXUAL CONSPIRACIES IN WILTSHIRE
A man from Wiltshire, identified as Gary Edge, narrowly avoided serving time behind bars after being caught in a sting operation conducted by paedophile hunters.The 46-year-old appeared in Salisbury Crown Court to face serious charges related to his online conduct towards what he believed was a minor.
Details of the case reveal that between March and May of the previous year, the police received credible intelligence indicating that Edge had been engaging in conversations with an individual he believed to be a young girl under the age of consent.
This shrewd intelligence led to a confrontation with the defendant, who was speaking with an adult decoy, part of a dedicated group of paedophile hunters aiming to expose individuals attempting to exploit children.
During the conversations, Edge was informed by the decoy that she was only 14 years old.
Despite this, he persisted in attempting to engage her in sexual discussions and tried to persuade her to watch a sexual act—a clear indication of his intent and culpability.
Such exchanges raised serious concerns about his intentions and the potential danger to minors.
On Monday, July 3rd, at Salisbury Crown Court, the defendant was handed an eight-month prison sentence, but this was suspended for two years.
This means that while he was technically sentenced to jail, he will not serve time unless he breaches the terms of his suspension.
As part of his sentence, Edge was also ordered to adhere to several strict conditions.
He must complete a six-month alcohol treatment program, participate in at least twenty rehabilitation activity days, and pay a court surcharge of £156.
Furthermore, Edge, who resides on Swaledale Road in Warminster, was mandated to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years.
Additionally, he was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order for the same duration.
These legal measures are designed to monitor and restrict his activities, aiming to prevent any recurrence of offenses.
Detective Sergeant Sam Hopkinson from the Criminal Investigation Department highlighted the significance of the case, stating, “I’m pleased that Edge has been sentenced and has been given a lengthy sexual harm prevention order and must be on the Sex Offender’s Register for the next decade.” He emphasized the police’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding children and emphasized that although there was no direct victim in this particular case, the agency encourages anyone affected by sexual offences to come forward.
DS Hopkinson added, “Wiltshire Police is completely committed to protecting children from sexual abuse and those who seek to do them harm.
While there was fortunately no victim in this case, I would like to take this opportunity to encourage anyone who has suffered a sexual offence to please come forward and speak to us as soon as you can.
Our specially trained officers will treat you with sensitivity and compassion.
I would also urge anyone who has concerns that a child they know may be being abused or exploited, to report this to us.”
