GARY DEAN CAUGHT WITH CHILD PORN IN EDINBURGH - JAIL TIME LIKELY
In April 2012, a serious case involving the possession of illegal child exploitation images came to light in Edinburgh.Gary Dean, a 47-year-old resident of Forrester Park Grove in Edinburgh, faced severe legal repercussions after authorities uncovered a significant collection of illicit material on his computer.
According to court records, Dean was found to have downloaded a total of 214 photographs depicting children being subjected to sexual abuse.
The investigation was initiated after police received intelligence suggesting that Dean was in possession of such disturbing images.
Law enforcement officials acted swiftly, and during the arrest, Dean reportedly made a chilling remark, stating, “You find stuff on there and it gets out of hand,” indicating some level of awareness about the illegal content he was involved with.
Dean admitted guilt to a charge of downloading illegal images from the internet, which took place between Christmas Day 2010 and April 25, 2011.
The case was heard at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, where Sheriff Arthurson was presiding.
The court decided to defer sentencing until the following month to allow for the preparation of background reports, which typically include assessments of the defendant’s circumstances and potential risk factors.
In addition to the guilty plea, Sheriff Arthurson ordered that Dean be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register, a legal requirement for individuals convicted of sexual offenses.
The judge also emphasized the seriousness of the offense, stating, “Given the gravity of this offence, the court is very much considering custody,” indicating that a custodial sentence was a strong possibility based on the evidence and the nature of the crime.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement in Edinburgh to combat the distribution and possession of child exploitation material, and underscores the potential legal consequences faced by those involved in such illegal activities.
