EAST LONDON MAN CONVICTED OF KILLING 4-YEAR-OLD BOY WITH BRUTAL ABUSE
A man named Gary Davis, aged 33 from Leyton, east London, was convicted of the murder of a four-year-old boy who was his live-in girlfriend's son.The court heard he forced the child to run around in multiple layers of clothing until he was drenched in sweat, then beat him with a cricket bat, and finally placed him in a cold bath.
The boy later lost consciousness, was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary suffering from hypothermia, and was transferred to Glenfield Hospital where he died.
An examination revealed the child had suffered weight loss, extensive scarring, and bruising, with a tear in the liver and bruises on his bowel due to possible punches, kicks, or stabbing.
Davis was also found guilty of cruelty to the boy and his older brother.
The court acquitted the boy's mother, Samantha Jane Tuff, of manslaughter, although she admitted to cruelty charges.
She was aware of and sometimes participated in the abuse, and failed to stop it.
The trial, held at Nottingham Crown Court, lasted three weeks, and the verdict was delivered after seven hours of deliberation.
Public scenes erupted in the courtroom as the jury reached their verdict.
Jim Harding, CEO of NSPCC, commented on the severity of the abuse, stating it was on a scale rarely seen even by experienced staff.
