GARY BLOUNT SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN CARMARTHENSHIRE AND SWANSEA
A man named Gary Blount has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting a young girl. The case was heard at Swansea Crown Court, where Blount appeared for sentencing following a jury verdict that found him guilty of two counts of sexual assault against a child under the age of 13.
During the proceedings, Blount’s defense lawyer, Ian Ibrahim, provided a detailed account of his client’s background, highlighting his previous successful career and his role as the primary breadwinner for his family.
Ibrahim explained that Blount was employed as a sound technician, involved in lighting, event management, security, and various other roles.
However, these professional pursuits have been completely disrupted by the charges, and Blount now finds himself in custody, living with his parents.
Ibrahim also emphasized the personal toll the allegations and subsequent conviction have taken on Blount.
He noted that all of Blount’s relationships and business ventures have been lost.
The lawyer pointed out that the offenses in question occurred seven or eight years ago, and since then, Blount has not committed any further crimes.
Additionally, he revealed that Blount suffers from anxiety and depression, and is currently under suicide watch, underscoring the mental health struggles he faces.
In delivering the sentence, His Honour Judge Geraint Walters addressed Blount directly.
The judge acknowledged that Blount had denied all guilt throughout the process, but the jury’s verdict had convicted him beyond reasonable doubt.
The judge referenced a pre-sentence report, which confirmed that Blount continued to deny his guilt, despite the conviction.
The report also revealed that Blount has a prior conviction for two sexual offenses, for which he was sentenced to 18 months in prison in 2018.
At that time, he was required to register as a sex offender for ten years and to adhere to a sexual harm prevention order for a similar period.
Judge Walters pointed out that the timeline of the 2018 offenses overlaps with the period during which the recent offenses occurred, indicating a pattern of behavior.
He also noted that Blount had shown no remorse for the crimes the jury found him guilty of, and emphasized the significant impact these offenses have had on the victim.
The court sentenced Blount, who is 44 years old and resides in Cwmfelin Boeth, Whitland, to five years in prison.
Additionally, an indefinite restraining order was issued, prohibiting him from making any contact with the victim, ensuring her protection moving forward.
