July 2011 Paedophile jailed for 13 years for King’s Lynn assaults A 52-year-old man has been jailed for 13 years after being convicted of sex assaults on children in West Norfolk between 1975 and 1990. Gary Auker, 52, of Kent Close, Sutton Bridge, Lincolnshire had denied 17 indecent assaults and one attempted rape at Norwich Crown Court. Three of his victims contacted police after meeting and sharing information on the internet. They told the jury how Auker had abused them when he lived in King’s Lynn. They were abused in the toilet at his former home at North Lynn, other parts of the house and in a car. When he was arrested Auker had dismissed the allegations against him as “ridiculous”. Auker was also placed on the sex offenders register for life. He has been issued with a Sexual Offences Prevention Order which means he will never be able to live with a child under the age of 16 or have unsupervised access to a child under the age of 18. Relived ordeals Jailing Auker, Recorder Mark Dennis QC told him: “In August last year, your past caught up with you. “No doubt you thought your past offending was just a memory in a number of ways, with marriage and children. “But for a number of other people it was a memory that haunted them.” The judge said the victims were youngsters who “should have been protected.” Norfolk police said by pleading not guilty Auker had forced his victims to relive their ordeals in court. Det Insp Richard Ellis said: “The misery he has caused has not only affected the victims but their families too. “I would like to commend the witnesses and victims in this case for the bravery they have shown in helping officers from the Vulnerable Persons Unit and the Crown Prosecution Service achieve justice for them all. “This has taken an enormous amount of courage on their part, and we hope such a sentence will give them a sense of closure, and that they can now move on positively with their lives.”
