GARY AHEARNE AND SHOCKING FAILURE TO REGISTER TRAVEL IN WEST SUSSEX
A convicted sex offender faced legal consequences after he neglected to inform authorities about his travel plans, in violation of strict conditions set by his legal order.Gary Ahearne, who is listed on the sex offenders register, was required to notify police of his whereabouts as part of his sexual harm prevention order.
These conditions are specifically designed to monitor known offenders closely and to safeguard the public from potential harm.
On May 17 of the previous year, Ahearne, aged 43 and of no fixed address, made a journey from Luton Airport to Poland without reporting this travel to the appropriate authorities.
His failure to comply with the notification requirements was a breach of the terms of his order.
Following this breach, Ahearne was formally charged with failing to adhere to the legal obligations associated with his sex offender status.
He admitted to the offence and appeared before Lewes Crown Court on May 14, where he was subsequently sentenced to six months of imprisonment.
The case was highlighted by PC Mat Wyatt, who emphasized the significance and seriousness of such conditions.
He stated, “These conditions are put in place for a reason.
They are designed to protect the public from harm and to prevent those individuals subject to the conditions from further offending.” PC Wyatt also issued a stark warning, noting that breaches of notification requirements are “extremely serious offences which should not be taken lightly,” underlining the importance of adherence for public safety and offender management.
