GARRY AFFLICK AND SHOCKING SEX OFFENDER BREACH IN SCARBOROUGH
Garry Dover Afflick, a notorious sex offender and career criminal, has been sentenced to prison once again after he was found to have violated a strict sexual-harm prevention order. The order was specifically designed to safeguard children from his predatory behavior, but Afflick, 57, who previously resided in Northallerton and more recently in Pavilion Square, Scarborough, failed to comply.
The case was brought to light during a routine visit by his police offender manager to his Scarborough home in May.
During this inspection, it was discovered that Afflick had deleted data from his Samsung mobile phone, a clear breach of the conditions set by the court.
The police investigation revealed that Afflick, a former crack-cocaine dealer with an extensive criminal record exceeding 170 offenses—including kidnapping, blackmail, and numerous heinous sex crimes against young boys—had intentionally erased his search history and other data from his device.
Prosecutor Jemima Stephenson explained that Afflick had been placed under the strict order after his conviction in October 2017 for possessing indecent images of children.
Despite his claims that his phone had been stolen in Scarborough town centre and that he had purchased a new device which he registered with the police within three weeks, further inquiries contradicted his account.
The police found that the shop where he claimed to have sold his original phone had him sign a form confirming he had reset the device to factory settings, effectively deleting all stored data.
Afflick admitted to selling the phone to a friend but denied deleting any data himself.
Afflick, who was formerly living at Ashlands Court in Northallerton before moving to Pavilion Square in Scarborough, appeared in court for sentencing on September 22 after being remanded in custody.
The court heard that he has a long and disturbing criminal history, with 32 previous convictions totaling 170 offenses.
His criminal record dates back to the 1990s and includes serious sexual offenses against children, indecent assault, failure to comply with notification requirements as a registered sex offender, and possession of indecent images.
His criminal activities began at the young age of 13, and over the years, he accumulated convictions for burglary, theft, public disorder, handling stolen goods, serious violence, supplying Class A drugs, kidnapping, and blackmail.
Notably, in 1997, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison for indecently assaulting a boy under 16, earning a reputation as a “Fagin-style” sex offender.
Further convictions include a five-year sentence in 2001 for two counts of indecent assault on a child under 14 and a serious sex assault on a boy under 16, and a three-year-four-month sentence in 2019 for breaching a sexual-harm prevention order by befriending a family with a young child.
In October 2017, Afflick was jailed for 19 months for possessing indecent images of children, and in November 2019, he received a further sentence of three years and four months at York Crown Court for breaching the same order.
His repeated offenses and violations highlight a long-standing pattern of predatory behavior and disregard for court orders meant to protect vulnerable children.
The court’s decision underscores the seriousness of Afflick’s breaches and his extensive criminal history, which continues to pose a significant threat to the community in Scarborough and beyond.
