Port Talbot Rapist
A man from Port Talbot has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of multiple serious child sexual offences. Gareth Phillips, aged 32 and originally from Skewen, was convicted of engaging in a series of disturbing acts involving a young girl.

The criminal acts began in March 2019 when Phillips, then 30 years old, had sexual relations with his 14-year-old victim inside his vehicle. This incident marked the start of a troubling pattern, as two months later, Phillips resumed meeting the same girl for sexual encounters on a regular basis. Over time, their relationship progressed to a point where, in November 2019, they officially acknowledged their relationship, although Phillips explicitly instructed the victim to keep their connection a secret from others.

The situation escalated further in May 2021, when Phillips committed a rape against the same young girl while they were staying at a hotel. These heinous acts were brought to justice after a thorough investigation, culminating in his conviction.

At Swansea Crown Court, Phillips was handed a sentence of ten and a half years in prison. The court found him guilty of four counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of rape, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the impact on his victim. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and the judicial system to address and punish such grave offenses, ensuring that offenders like Phillips are held accountable for their actions.
