GARETH GILLES FROM GLASGOW KNIGHTSWOOD FACES JAIL AFTER CHILD SEXUAL IMAGE SCANDAL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Glasgow community, Gareth Gilles, a 39-year-old resident of Knightswood, was apprehended last April on suspicion of possessing and sharing indecent images of children. The police investigation was initiated after authorities received a credible tip-off indicating that Gilles had uploaded explicit photographs of minors to the social media platform Twitter.
Following this information, law enforcement officers conducted a targeted operation at Gilles' residence in Knightswood.
Initially, Gilles was not present at the scene, which delayed the immediate arrest.
However, when he returned to his home, officers promptly seized his Samsung mobile phone for forensic examination.
During the subsequent search of Gilles' device, investigators uncovered a troubling collection of 17 illicit images stored within a folder labeled 'screenshots.' These images depicted children aged between five and fifteen, highlighting the severity of the offense.
The police also discovered that Gilles had used Google to search for child pornography, further implicating him in the possession of illegal material.
Gilles was brought before Glasgow Sheriff Court, where he admitted to possessing the indecent images.
Despite the admission, he chose not to comment on the allegations during the court proceedings.
The court heard that Gilles' bail was continued, with sentencing scheduled for the following month.
In the meantime, Sheriff Alayne Swanson ordered Gilles to be placed on the sex offenders register, a measure that underscores the gravity of his actions and the ongoing concern for community safety.
