MAN SENTENCED TO 34 YEARS FOR KIDNAP, TORTURE AND RAPE
Gagandeep Singh, aged 34 and residing on Heathfield Road in Wandsworth, was convicted in February on charges including two counts of rape, false imprisonment, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and kidnapping following a trial at Isleworth Crown Court.Today, on Friday, June 12, Singh appeared before the same court.
His sentence will be 34 years in total, consisting of 28 years in prison and an additional six-year extended license period.
He will not be eligible for parole until he has served at least 18 years, which is two-thirds of his prison term, plus the extended licence.
After completing his sentence and license, he will be deported with no possibility of re-entry.
The court was informed that the victim, a 24-year-old woman, grew suspicious in June 2024 when asked to transport a suitcase containing unknown items from Thailand to the UK.
She declined to do so.
Upon her return to Birmingham Airport, she was forcibly taken into a car and driven to London by masked men.
She was held in a house in Hanwell where she endured extended torture, including being raped twice by Singh.
Traumatised by her ordeal, she was initially hesitant to disclose the full details to the police.
With the support of her mother and the patient, consistent efforts of specialist officers from the Metropolitan Police, she gradually gained the confidence to seek justice at her own pace.
