FREDERICK SEARS OF RAMSEY SENTENCED TO 4.5 YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF CHILD

In a recent court ruling, Frederick Walter Sears, a 59-year-old resident of Canberra Court in Ramsey, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing a young girl.

The conviction stems from two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl who was under the age of 13 at the time of the offenses.

Seventeen-year-old crimes came to light when Sears, who had pleaded guilty, appeared before Peterborough Crown Court on February 5th.

The sentencing took place at Huntingdon Crown Court on Friday, March 12th.

The court heard that Sears had engaged in abusive acts against his victim when she was between 12 and 13 years old, roughly nine years prior to his conviction.

As part of his sentence, Sears will be registered on the sex offenders register for life, a measure that underscores the severity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.

The investigation was led by Detective Constable Sarah Fines, who expressed her thoughts on the case.

She stated, “Sears abused the trust of the victim and it has taken her nine years to build up the courage to speak out.” Detective Fines emphasized the importance of victims coming forward, regardless of how much time has passed since the abuse occurred.

She added, “I hope this result encourages other victims of sexual abuse to come forward even if some time has passed since the offence took place.” She also extended her gratitude to everyone involved in the case, highlighting the dedication and effort that led to Sears’s conviction.

Her comments serve as a reminder that justice can be pursued and achieved, even after many years, for those who have suffered abuse in silence.
