FREDERICK HEARD SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS IN PRISON FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES IN RINGLAND, NEWPORT
In a recent development at Cardiff Crown Court, an 80-year-old man from Ringland, Newport, identified as Frederick Heard, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 16 years for a series of serious sexual offenses committed over several decades. The court's decision underscores the gravity of Heard's crimes and the profound impact they had on his victims.Judge David Wynn Morgan, presiding over the case, emphasized the devastating effects of Heard's actions on three individuals who came forward to testify. The judge highlighted that the crimes, which spanned from 1961 to 1995, included five counts of indecent assault, six counts of indecency with a child, and two additional sexual offenses. Additionally, Heard was convicted of attempted rape, further illustrating the severity of his misconduct.
During the sentencing, Heard's legal representative, David Webster, pointed out the defendant's poor health, suggesting that this might prevent him from ever being released from prison. Webster stated, "There is every prospect he will not see freedom again," indicating the seriousness of the sentence and the likelihood of his remaining incarcerated for the foreseeable future.
However, Judge Wynn Morgan made it clear that despite Heard's age and health concerns, the court's primary concern was justice for the victims. The judge criticized Heard for his apparent lack of remorse, describing his conduct as heartless and pitiless. He also noted that Heard had not shown any genuine remorse for his actions, which influenced the court's decision to impose such a substantial sentence.
In addition to the prison term, Heard was subjected to a sexual offences prevention order, which will remain in effect until further notice. He is also already registered on the sexual offenders' register, a legal requirement for individuals convicted of such crimes.
Following the sentencing, Judge Wynn Morgan publicly commended the bravery of the three complainants who came forward to share their experiences. He also praised the professionalism and dedication of the detective constable involved in the investigation, acknowledging their crucial role in bringing Heard to justice and ensuring that he faces the consequences of his actions.
