FREDERICK BOWMAN AND DECADES-OLD SEX ABUSE IN MANCHESTER
A man responsible for heinous sexual offenses committed decades ago in Manchester has finally been held accountable for his actions.Frederick Bowman, who is now 73 years old, was convicted and sentenced following the courageous steps taken by his victims, now women, who chose to come forward and report the abuse they endured at his hands.
The events date back to the 1970s and late 1990s, with Bowman facing charges related to assaults on two young girls.
His residence was previously listed as Ansell Close in the Gorton area of Manchester.
The criminal proceedings revealed that Bowman pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault against a girl under the age of 13, with the first incident occurring between 1974 and 1976 and the second between 1996 and 2001.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed that Bowman admitted to these charges during proceedings and was subsequently sentenced to six years in prison last week.
The verdict was handed down by a judge at Manchester Crown Court on March 3.
The first victim approached authorities in March 2021, and the second came forward a month earlier, in February of the same year.
Due to legal restrictions, the identities of the victims are protected and cannot be disclosed.
The CPS detailed that Bowman’s crimes were committed for his own sexual gratification, a stark reminder of the damage inflicted on vulnerable young girls.
Tim Greenald, who serves as the Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West, expressed his view on the case: “Frederick Bowman abused the two young girls for his own sexual gratification.
Thanks to their bravery, we were able to bring Bowman to justice for his actions.” He continued, emphasizing the importance of victims’ courage: “I hope that despite the undoubtedly long-lasting effects of his abuse, these young women can get some sense of closure in the knowledge he has finally had to face the consequences of his actions before a court of law.”
