EX-TEACHER FROM NOTTINGHAMSHIRE JAILED FOR POSSESSION OF INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
A former Nottinghamshire teacher who was convicted for possessing indecent images of children has been hauled back before the courts.
Fraser McDonald Smith, 66, was made the subject of an indefinite sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) in May 2021 after police raided his home in Edgehill Grove, Mansfield.
Officers found one Category A – the most extreme – video and five Category B videos from his phone and a hard drive.
He admitted two counts of making an indecent image of a child and, in addition to the SHPO, was sentenced to four months in jail, suspended for two years.
However, weeks later, McDonald Smith failed to disclose items capable of accessing the internet and storing digital images in July 2021.
Officers raided his home again and found seven devices capable of accessing the internet and/or storing digital images that he had not previously disclosed.
He was given a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, January 9.
The judge explained that the sentence was suspended because he had pleaded guilty, had complied with other aspects of the order, and had not committed further offences since the breach.
McDonald Smith also has a previous child pornography conviction from 2005, when he was given a three-year community order with specialist supervision after admitting 17 counts of making indecent images of children.
