FRANK MOONEY SENTENCED TO 19 YEARS IN PRISON FOR CHILD RAPE AND ASSAULT IN MILTON KEYNES AND BOREHAMWOOD
A man from Milton Keynes has been handed a lengthy prison sentence totaling 19 years after being convicted of multiple serious crimes, including the sexual assault and rape of a young child, as well as a separate violent attack in Borehamwood.The individual in question, Frank Mooney, aged 36 and residing in Bletchley, Milton Keynes, was taken into custody in May 2022 following reports to police regarding allegations of sexual offenses involving a child.
Mooney’s court appearance for sentencing took place at St Albans Crown Court on Thursday, March 2.
Following a jury trial where he was found guilty, he was convicted of the heinous crime of raping a child under the age of 13.
In addition, he was convicted of encouraging a child to engage in sexual activity and faced two counts of sexual assault.
The court subsequently sentenced him to a total of 16 years in prison for these offenses.
As part of his sentence, Mooney has been compulsorily added to the sex offenders’ register and is subject to the strict conditions of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The 36-year-old defendant’s criminal record did not end there.
He also admitted guilt to a separate assault that occurred on July 23, 2022, which resulted in him receiving an additional three-year sentence.
This particular incident involved Mooney pleading guilty to common assault, possession of a knife, and wounding with intent during a confrontation at a residential address in Borehamwood.
During this violent altercation, Mooney punched and stabbed a man in the shoulder.
Fortunately, the injuries sustained by the victim were not life threatening, but the incident demonstrated Mooney’s continued dangerous behavior while he was on bail.
The attack in Borehamwood unfolded when Mooney attended a premises where he engaged in an argument with a man and a woman.
The situation escalated, culminating in Mooney violently assaulting the victim with both fists and a knife, resulting in injuries that required medical attention.
This episode added further weight to the court’s decision to give him a substantial prison term.
Commenting on the case, Detective Constable Jacqueline Oliver, part of the Joint Child Protection Investigation Team, emphasized the significance of the victim’s bravery and the support of her family in bringing Mooney to justice.
She stated, “The bravery of the victim and her family has assisted in sending a dangerous offender to jail for many years.
I hope this result can provide them with some sense of closure, having seen her abuser brought to justice.” Detective Oliver also reiterated the police department’s commitment to addressing all reports of abuse, noting their responsibility to hold offenders accountable and support victims throughout the investigative process.
She urged anyone who has experienced sexual abuse to come forward, either by calling the non-emergency police number 101 or reporting online.
Additionally, residents of Hertfordshire, including Borehamwood, are encouraged to contact the Herts Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) for practical and emotional assistance if they have been victims of sexual violence.
