FRANK GRECO AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ABUSE IN WILTSHIRE
A disturbing case has emerged involving a Meals on Wheels delivery driver from Swindon who has been sentenced to prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against a 93-year-old woman suffering from dementia.The perpetrator, 59-year-old Frank Greco, residing on Leighton Avenue, pleaded guilty to seven separate charges that include attempted rape, assault by penetration, and five counts of sexual assault.
The crimes took place over a period between late March and mid-April of this year, while Greco was working for Enterprise Works Community Meals, a service operating in Gipsy Lane.
The elderly woman, who was described as frail and vulnerable due to her deteriorating health, became the target of Greco’s predatory behavior during his visits to her home.
Unbeknownst to Greco, the woman’s son had taken precautions by installing CCTV cameras in her kitchen and living room, driven by concerns about her safety.
When he checked the footage, he was horrified to discover his mother being subjected to sexual abuse by the delivery driver.
He promptly contacted the police, leading to Greco’s arrest and subsequent investigation.
During the court proceedings at Swindon Crown Court, it was revealed that Greco’s misconduct was both calculated and disturbing.
On one occasion, he brought moisturizing cream with him, which he applied to the victim before attempting to rape her.
When this attempt failed, he proceeded to digitally penetrate her.
In another incident, he removed her trousers and underwear to perform sexual acts.
The CCTV footage also captured him touching her breasts beneath her clothing and kissing her on the lips.
Further footage showed Greco leading the elderly woman upstairs, out of the camera’s view, and upon returning to the kitchen, he was seen washing his genitals in the sink and drying himself with a tea towel.
Alarmingly, two of these offenses occurred while members of her family were present in other rooms, highlighting the brazen nature of his crimes.
Initially, Greco denied any wrongdoing when questioned by detectives.
However, once confronted with the CCTV evidence, he claimed that the sexual activities were consensual.
This claim was particularly troubling given that the victim had been assessed as having a level six out of seven on the Global Deterioration Scale for dementia, indicating severe cognitive decline.
The victim’s family described her as suffering from significant cognitive impairments, including an inability to tell the time, confusion about her surroundings, difficulty recognizing family members, and general forgetfulness.
She often confuses her son with her father, illustrating the extent of her mental deterioration.
Judge Jason Taylor KC addressed the court, expressing the profound impact of the crimes on the victim’s family.
He noted that her son remains deeply traumatised by what he saw on the CCTV footage, emphasizing the shock and revulsion experienced by the family upon discovering the extent of Greco’s abuse.
The judge remarked, “It was hardly surprising,” and added, “He could not have imagined what it would record, and I cannot imagine the revulsion [his family] must have felt when they discovered what had been recorded.” In sentencing, Judge Taylor sentenced Greco to a prison term of 14 years and four months.
Additionally, he was classified as a dangerous offender and was given an extended license period of five years and eight months.
The judge described Greco’s behavior as calculating and controlling, contrasting it with the victim’s childlike and compliant responses, which were likely influenced by her severe dementia.
He stated that her inability to understand or make informed decisions made her highly vulnerable to manipulation and exploitation.
The judge further condemned Greco’s actions as predatory and depraved, asserting that he deliberately targeted the victim because she could not resist or comprehend what was happening.
The court also noted that Greco had a prior conviction for arson with intent to endanger life dating back to 2001.
Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Rachel Hardy expressed her condemnation of Greco’s actions, describing them as the ultimate betrayal of trust.
She emphasized the profound impact on the victim and her family, noting the difficulty they faced in learning of the abuse.
Hardy also acknowledged the distress experienced by the investigation team and thanked the victim’s family for their dignity throughout the ordeal.
Her thoughts remain with the victim and her loved ones as they continue to cope with the aftermath of this traumatic case.
