FRANK COLLETT SHOCKS GLOUCESTER WITH CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES
In February 2016, Frank Collett, a resident of Gloucester, faced serious legal repercussions after being convicted of possessing a significant collection of indecent images of children and breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order. The court heard that Collett, aged 69 at the time, had accumulated over 500 illicit images and videos depicting minors under the age of 18.
According to the prosecution, police discovered these images on Collett’s electronic devices during a search, revealing a disturbing collection that included both photographs and movies.
The investigation revealed that Collett had been involved in activities that involved viewing and possibly sharing such material.
Collett attempted to justify his actions by claiming that he was researching websites to understand what others were getting away with, a statement that did little to mitigate the severity of his offenses.
It was also noted that he had a prior history of similar crimes, having previously served time in prison for related offences.
Despite the gravity of the case, the court opted for a relatively lenient sentence, imposing a two-year prison term.
Additionally, Collett was subjected to a community order, which included supervision and participation in a sex offender treatment program.
The judge emphasized the importance of monitoring and rehabilitating offenders like Collett to prevent further harm to vulnerable children.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about the possession and distribution of child exploitation material, and the importance of law enforcement efforts in Gloucester and beyond to combat such heinous crimes.
