PARISA TAVAKOLI'S DOMESTIC ABUSE HORROR IN DUNFERMLINE: VICTIM'S STRUGGLE AND JUSTICE
A man who endured a harrowing period of domestic abuse in Dunfermline has bravely come forward to share his story, hoping to shed light on the often-overlooked issue of male victims in abusive relationships.Over the course of four months last year, he was subjected to relentless harassment and violence at the hands of his former partner, Parisa Tavakoli, whose actions ranged from verbal assaults to physical intimidation.
During this abusive episode, Tavakoli repeatedly shouted at him, creating a hostile and intimidating environment.
She also engaged in destructive behavior, such as throwing his clothing and damaging his mobile phone.
Her persistent attempts to contact him included numerous phone calls, text messages, emails, and social media messages directed not only at him but also at his family, friends, and associates, causing significant distress and invasion of privacy.
Her troubling behavior extended beyond digital harassment.
Tavakoli was known to loiter outside his gym in Dunfermline, waiting for him and causing him to feel unsafe in familiar places.
She entered his car without permission and refused to leave, further violating his personal space and sense of security.
Her actions escalated to physical interference when she seized his clothing and attempted to prevent him from leaving his house, even physically restraining him, which resulted in injuries.
The victim, who cannot be named due to legal restrictions, expressed his feelings about the ordeal, stating, "You don't really hear of domestic abuse happening to guys, and I was reluctant to go to the police, but it got to the stage where it was stalking and harassment.
Every time I heard a car pulling up at the house, or I was coming out of the gym, or the phone rang at work, I was worried it was her." He further explained his desire for peace, saying, "I couldn't go through life like this.
I just wanted to be left alone.
I believe there are many other men who have experienced or are experiencing similar situations.
If they take action, there’s a chance to escape it." Looking back, he admitted that he should have left sooner but felt overwhelmed by a sense of helplessness.
"I'm never going to raise my hands to a woman, and to have someone attack you and not be able to do anything about it just felt surreal," he reflected.
At Dunfermline Sheriff Court, Tavakoli, a first-time offender, received a deferred sentence of one year on the condition of good behavior.
The victim expressed a sense of relief, saying, "I didn't expect her to get a heavy sentence, but I am just happy with the conviction." He revealed that they had started their relationship in April 2022, shortly after which she became pregnant.
Despite early warning signs, his attempts to end the relationship led to Tavakoli becoming increasingly abusive.
"I felt threatened.
I didn't know what she was capable of.
I hadn't wanted another child, as I already have three with my ex-wife.
I understand she has a baby and might feel I abandoned her as a single mother.
I tried to do the right thing, but I didn't leave because of the baby; I left because she was being abusive.
She just didn't see there was a problem," he explained.
He also shared that he took precautions to protect himself, keeping copies of all messages and recording videos of her aggressive behavior.
"I kept everything she sent and recorded her when she was getting aggressive, mainly for my own safety.
If I called the police, I knew she would claim I had done something to her.
She knew I was recording, but it didn't matter.
I didn't think she believed I would go to the police.
When the police officers arrived, I was worried I would be at a disadvantage, but they were incredibly supportive and helped me see that it had to stop," he concluded.
