NEGLECTFUL DOG OWNER SENTENCED TO 10-YEAR ANIMAL BAN AFTER DOGS SUFFER AND DIE
A woman accused of neglecting her dogs, leading to their suffering and the death of one, has been sentenced.Flora Giffin, from Faifley, Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, was found during a Scottish SPCA investigation to have failed to provide proper veterinary care for her animals.
She admitted offences under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006.
Giffin's two dogs were found to have been suffering from various untreated painful health conditions.
Her 12-year-old spaniel, Abbey, had a large pus-filled growth in her ear and was suffering from chronic dry-eye, a painful and potentially blindness-causing condition if untreated.
The dog was also severely matted around the legs, ears, and face and could not lift her head when walking.
Her 17-year-old West Highland terrier, Clyde, had painful ear and skin infections and dental disease.
Despite initial treatment, Clyde was found to have underlying health issues.
Scottish SPCA Inspector Jennifer Connolly described the case as 'particularly sad' because the dogs endured pain without their owner seeking veterinary attention, despite Giffin claiming she was entitled to free treatment with the PDSA.
The court sentenced Giffin to a 10-year ban on keeping animals and imposed a six-month supervision order.
She was also found to be unfit to care for animals based on her actions and neglect.
