MANCHESTER MAN SENTENCED TO 10 MONTHS FOR ATTACKING TEENAGE GIRL IN PICCADILLY
A man who targeted a teenage girl in a terrifying attack at Piccadilly has been jailed.At around 4.30pm on Saturday, 28 December 2024, the 15-year-old victim was walking with her group of friends through Manchester Piccadilly.But Manchester Crown Court heard that Fawzi Hamza, 25, suddenly approached her from behind and grabbed the strap of her handbag, pushing and pulling her in an attempt to remove it from her shoulder in front of scores of commuters.Members of the public rushed to intervene, while British Transport Officers stationed nearby were alerted and immediately moved in to arrest Hamza.He was taken into custody and later charged.HAMZA, of no fixed address, was sentenced to 10 months' imprisonment at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday, June 24, having pleaded guilty to attempted robbery at an earlier hearing.
He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge.Investigating officer DC Leonidas Christoforou said: "This was an incredibly frightening incident for the young girl, who was left understandably shaken.""We're very grateful to her for supporting our investigation, and to the members of public who came to her aid."Fawzi Hamza, 25, of no fixed address, was sentenced to 10 months' imprisonment.
