YORK RAPIST FASIL DEMSASH JAILED FOR NINE YEARS
A calculating and manipulative man from York has been sentenced to nine years in prison after being found guilty of rape.Fasil Demsash, who resides on Holgate Road, met his victim at a city centre bar in autumn 2018.
The victim then went directly to a local police station to report the assault, and after an extensive investigation, Demsash was convicted.
Despite the clear forensic evidence, Demsash continued to deny the crime, attempting to undermine his victim and forcing her to repeatedly relive the traumatic experience during the investigation.
Today, Demsash was sentenced at York Crown Court to nine years imprisonment.
Following the sentencing, the victim spoke out, saying, "I didn't just get raped that night, I had my life stolen from me.
Having to go through reliving it day by day with the police and friends and family was almost too much for me to take, you just want it to go away, but you also need to get justice and stop this happening to anyone else.
The responsibility and expectation to have to go through the whole process is huge and not easy at all." She also expressed her support for other victims by saying, "I want to send all my thoughts and love to anyone that has ever been a victim of sexual assault too.
You are a survivor, you are so strong and no one can take that away from you." Detectives praised her bravery, with DC Alyson Thompson stating, "She has shown incredible strength and bravery and we hope this sentencing can give her some closure so she can move on with her life."
