Cranbrook Sexual Abuser
A man from Cranbrook, named Farhan Akoo, who has been described by police as an 'opportunistic predator,' has been sentenced to more than six years in prison for kidnapping and raping a woman. The incident occurred on November 25, 2018, when Akoo abducted the victim from her friends before sexually assaulting her on an unlit dead-end road. During the attack, Akoo also stole the victim's phone to prevent her from seeking help. He was brought before the Inner London Crown Court, where he was sentenced to six years and nine months imprisonment for charges including rape, kidnapping, kidnapping with intent to commit sexual offences, and three counts of sexual assault by penetration. Detective Inspector Anna Rice from the City of London Police's Public Protection Unit commended the bravery of the victim and emphasized that Akoo, as an 'opportunistic predator,' exploited a vulnerable woman and deprived her of her means of contacting help. She added that Akoo's sentence will also see him on the sex offenders register indefinitely, providing some closure and reassurance to the public. Authorities encourage anyone who has experienced sexual offences or is concerned about someone at risk to report the matter anonymously to Crimestoppers.
