MANCHESTER MAN JAILED FOR 'VICIOUS' CAR ATTACK AND ASSAULT
Fabrice Kapena, a man from Manchester, has been handed a 13-year jail term after attacking a woman in his car in a particularly violent manner. The offence occurred on 7 August 2022, when Kapena convinced the woman to get into his vehicle outside a Deansgate bar, promising to pick up her friends later and help them into another venue.
Instead, he drove her away from the city centre into a quiet location where he carried out a severe assault.
During the attack, he tried to strangle the woman as she struggled to free herself.
Evidence presented in court stated that Kapena pushed himself onto the victim and gripped her around the neck, even as she attempted to fight back with hits and scratches.
The woman managed to escape from the vehicle and later found assistance at a nearby care home around 3 am; staff there contacted emergency services.
Police tracked Kapena to his home on Bridgelea Road and arrested him.
It was also disclosed that he had a previous record involving the attack on another woman after driving her out of the city centre, as well as stealing her phone and bank card earlier that year in February.
His criminal record includes convictions for robbery, theft, and strangulation.
Greater Manchester Police called him a “dangerous individual” and expressed satisfaction that he is now in custody.
Detective Inspector Andy Worthington highlighted the victim’s courage and urged others affected by sexual offences to report them, ensuring they will be supported and believed.
Kapena was sentenced to 13 years plus a seven-year extended licence for crimes that include rape, robbery, theft, and strangulation.
