FIFE MAN EWAN MORRISON SENTENCED AFTER BRUTAL ATTACKS ON WOMAN IN THORNTON
A man from Fife, Ewan Morrison, has been sentenced to over two years in prison following a series of violent assaults against a woman in the town of Thornton. The incidents, which took place over a period of time, involved severe physical and psychological abuse, prompting calls for greater awareness and action against domestic violence.
One particularly harrowing episode occurred when Morrison knelt over Annette Johnston and stabbed the mattress beside her head.
This act was triggered after she discovered that he had been involved romantically with a Norwegian bar worker.
The confrontation escalated quickly, revealing the dangerous and volatile nature of Morrison’s behavior.
In another disturbing incident, Morrison physically assaulted Ms.
Johnston by choking her until she nearly lost consciousness.
This attack was provoked when she challenged him about his extramarital affair and tore up his passport, an act that seemed to ignite his fury.
The violence inflicted upon her was not only physical but also deeply traumatic.
Ms.
Johnston, who was in her twenties at the time, suffered a fractured eye socket during one of the assaults.
The injury was severe enough to require surgical reconstruction, highlighting the brutality of Morrison’s violence.
Her ordeal underscores the serious consequences of domestic abuse and the importance of recognizing warning signs.
At Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, Sheriff Steven Borthwick sentenced Morrison to 27 months in prison.
The court also imposed a lifelong ban on Morrison contacting Ms.
Johnston and prohibited him from entering her hometown of Thornton.
These measures aim to protect her from further harm and serve as a reminder of the seriousness of his actions.
Following the sentencing, Ms.
Johnston spoke to The Courier, expressing her perspective on the case.
She stated, “For me, it’s not about the punishment.
I’m comfortable in the knowledge now he won’t be going and doing this to anyone else, and these things will stay on his record.” Her words reflect a desire for justice and a hope that her experience will contribute to greater awareness and prevention of domestic violence in the community.
