EVERET HIGGINS AND SHOCKING SEXUAL OFFENCES IN BATH
A man aged 66, identified as Everet Winston Higgins, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after admitting to serious sexual offences committed against two young victims in Bath.Higgins, who resides on Gloucester Road in Bath, was convicted and subsequently sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for his crimes.
Higgins pleaded guilty to a total of five charges, which included indecent assault, causing a minor to participate in sexual activities, and encouraging the production of indecent photographs of a child.
The disturbing case revealed that Higgins had groomed and sexually abused one of his victims after initiating contact with her in the late 1990s, during which she was in her mid-teens.
This early abuse lasted over a period and was part of a pattern of manipulative behaviour that Grossly violated her trust and well-being.
Further investigation by the police uncovered disturbing communication between Higgins and a second victim through social media platforms.
In these exchanges, Higgins requested indecent images from the victim.
When law enforcement authorities arrested him, they found handwritten notes in Higgins’ possession that contained explicit requests for sexual acts with the second victim.
The victim also provided testimony stating that Higgins had sexually assaulted her multiple times when she was between the ages of eight and twelve.
In a powerful victim impact statement, the first survivor detailed the profound effect Higgins’ actions had on her life.
She expressed that her vulnerability as a young person was exploited, and she mourns her lost teenage years, which were tainted and stolen by Higgins’ abuse.
She remarked, “Despite everything he has done to me and the subsequent police and CPS involvement, I do not wish bad on him.
But I believe that, whether he understands what he is doing is wrong or not, he will never stop.
For the protection of other young people, I hope he receives a custodial sentence long enough to prevent him from harming anyone else ever again.” The second victim also spoke about the lasting impact of Higgins’ actions.
Her statement revealed that it has been three years since police intervention, and the trauma continues to affect her daily life.
She conveyed a sense of uncertainty about her future, stating, “It has been three years since the police intervened and Higgins’ actions are still impacting my life.
I anticipate they will continue to do so throughout my life, but it is difficult to foresee how.” Higgins appeared at Bristol Crown Court earlier this month, where he was sentenced to 15 years in prison and was also subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
During the sentencing, Judge Ambrose emphasized the severe and lasting impact Higgins' offences have had on his victims.
The judge described the offences as having a “profound effect on the lives of his victims,” highlighting the gravity of the case.
Investigating officer Carl Spicer praised the bravery of the victims, acknowledging the courage it took for them to come forward and speak about their experiences.
He condemned Higgins' lack of remorse, noting that his behaviour demonstrated manipulation and a disregard for the pain inflicted.
Spicer concluded that Higgins’ actions confirmed his status as a manipulative sexual offender who poses a continued threat to society.
