MANCHESTER AIRPORT VOYEUR PLACED ON SEX OFFENDERS REGISTER AFTER CONFRONTATION
A voyeur who secretly filmed a woman inside a toilet at Manchester Airport has been placed on the sex offenders register.
Eric O'Neill concealed himself in a cubicle before recording the victim without her awareness.
He was arrested after the woman noticed a camera over the top of the cubicle, confronted him and called for assistance.
The victim described the incident as 'sickening,' recalling how she sensed a presence above her and then saw a camera protruding from the top of the cubicle in April this year.
She gathered her courage, exited the cubicle shouting and screaming, and then confronted O'Neill, grabbing his phone.
Passers-by heard the disturbance, alerted security, and police detained O'Neill.
At Stockport magistrates' court, the 29-year-old, from Delford Drive, Douglas, Cork, Ireland, pleaded guilty to voyeurism and received a 16-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.
He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for seven years, pay £300 compensation, and cover £350 in court costs.
Detective Sergeant Alex Wild commended the victim's bravery, emphasizing that her actions helped prevent further incidents and highlighted the seriousness of voyeurism, which invades privacy and can affect anyone anywhere.
He reassured the public that Manchester Airport's safety is a priority and encouraged victims to come forward, promising that they will be supported and perpetrators prosecuted.
