May 2018 Disgraced ex teacher guilty of sexually abusing vulnerable school girl A retired RE teacher has been jailed after being found guilty of a string of sex offences against a pupil. Disgraced Eric John Fewings, known as John Fewings, has been found guilty on all five charges relating to the grooming and sexual assault of a girl who was a pupil at David Lister secondary school. Fewings, 68, of James Ingle Mews, Beverley, described as a “charismatic” teacher, denied sexually abusing the girl in the 1970s at the east Hull school and has been on trial this week. His victim went to the police after she bumped into him at a concert, where he told her: “You were one of my favourites”. She told him, ‘you f****** ruined my life, get ready for a knock at the door because one might be coming’. Fewings began grooming the girl, described as someone who “lacked confidence” and was “quiet and vulnerable”, by giving her little jobs to do. He then took advantage of vulnerability and indecently assaulted her at school. He also drove her to a “small, secluded place”, where his behaviour became more serious. Sentencing Fewings to 30 months, Judge David Tremberg told him: “You groomed her, showing her the gentleness and kindness she was so lacking in her life. Thereby, you created the opportunity to get her in your classroom on her own.” He must also register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
