EMMANUEL ANOLIEFO AND HIS SHOCKING SEXUAL CRIMES IN EDINBURGH
A man responsible for a disturbing series of sexual assaults and rapes across Edinburgh has been formally sentenced to serve time behind bars.Emmanuel Anoliefo, aged 39, was previously convicted at the High Court in Edinburgh in July on multiple criminal charges, including four counts of rape involving three different women, two counts of sexual assault, three counts of threatening and abusive behaviour, and one charge of stalking.
The heinous crimes attributed to Anoliefo were committed over an extensive period from November 2018 to August 2020.
His actions spanned nearly two years, during which he targeted women in various settings around the city of Edinburgh, exploiting opportunities to commit acts of sexual violence and intimidation.
During a court session at the High Court in Glasgow on the Friday of the sentencing, Emmanuel Anoliefo received a prison sentence of 12 years.
The verdict reflects the seriousness of his crimes and the impact on the victims, many of whom testified about their traumatic experiences.
Detective Sergeant Mark Seymour commented on the case, highlighting the nature of Anoliefo's offending.
Detective Sergeant Seymour stated, "Anoliefo preyed on women, some of whom he already knew.
He deliberately decided to exploit others whom he approached in the street and tried to befriend.
He was ruthless, dangerous, and cruel, and has shown no remorse for his crimes." He further emphasized that despite claims of having been raised to respect women, Anoliefo’s victims remain shaken, frightened, and are still striving to come to terms with what has happened to them.
The officer also commended the bravery of the women who stepped forward to provide testimonies in court, acknowledging that their courage was instrumental in securing justice.
Seymour expressed hope that the length of the sentencing would help provide the victims with some degree of closure.
The investigation, which culminated in Anoliefo’s arrest, was significantly aided by public cooperation.
Detective Seymour expressed appreciation for the community's response to a public appeal for information issued in August 2020.
This support played a crucial role in apprehending Anoliefo and bringing him to justice.
Police Scotland reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing justice for victims of sexual crimes and urged anyone with information or concerns related to such offences—regardless of when they occurred—to come forward.
The department continues to emphasize the importance of reporting these crimes to ensure perpetrators are held accountable and to promote safety within Edinburgh and beyond.
