EMMANUEL AGBJAJE AND SHOCKING ONLINE SEX OFFENCES IN KENT
A teenage boy from Strood, Kent, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 12 years after a series of heinous crimes involving the grooming and sexual abuse of young girls through social media platforms.Emmanuel Agbaje's actions not only included the initial grooming but escalated to sexual assaults and acts of blackmail, causing profound trauma to his victims.
Between September 2021 and August 2022, Agbaje targeted nine teenage girls in the Kent area, establishing online contact through various social media channels.
He would often introduce himself or pose as someone else, gradually building a relationship of trust with his victims.
Once a connection was solidified, he coerced the girls into sharing intimate photographs of themselves.
Following this, he used the images to blackmail them, threatening to distribute the photos unless they agreed to meet him in person.
Agbaje’s manipulative tactics led to several meetings where he committed sexual offences, including rape and other forms of sexual abuse.
To ensure the victims remained silent about his actions, he employed threats of physical harm.
In one chilling example, he sent a photograph of a girl’s own front door to threaten her or intimidate her into compliance.
The legal proceedings revealed the extent of his culpability.
In November 2022, Agbaje appeared before a youth court at Staines Magistrates’ Court, where he admitted to 30 charges relating to his abusive conduct.
These charges encompassed two counts of rape, ten counts of sexual activity with a child, nine counts of blackmail, inciting the sexual exploitation of a minor, sending threatening messages, and threatening to disclose private sexual images with the intent to cause distress.
During this hearing, a court order also specified 24 additional counts to be held on file.
Later, at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, the 17-year-old received a severe 12-year prison sentence.
The court mandated that he serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
The judge described Agbaje as “dangerous” and lifted restrictions that would typically prevent the public from knowing his identity, given his age.
Upon completion of his prison term, Agbaje will be subject to an additional four-year license period.
Additionally, he was placed on the Sex Offender Register for life, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes.
The case was thoroughly investigated by Detective Constables Abigail Palmer and Daniel Burnett from Medway’s Vulnerability Investigation Team.
DC Burnett commented on the case, emphasizing the severity of Agbaje’s actions: “He was responsible for a catalogue of appalling offences, instilling terror in his victims to coerce and control them as part of his warped desires.
I commend each victim for their bravery in coming forward and supporting this investigation.
Their courage has led to these convictions against a highly predatory and dangerous individual.” He added, “The physical and mental impact on the victims is profound, and they are now on a journey to rebuild their lives and trust.
I hope this sentence provides some closure and allows them to move forward from this ordeal.”
