EMIL EMILOV CAUGHT IN LEICESTER AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT AND RETURN FROM BULGARIA
A serious criminal case has culminated in the imprisonment of Emil Emilov, a convicted sex offender, following a series of events that unfolded in Leicester city centre.The incident, which took place early on a Sunday morning, was captured through key CCTV footage that played a crucial role in bringing Emilov to justice.
On the morning of 28 May last year, shortly after 5am, Emil Emilov, aged 25 and originally from Bulgaria, approached a 19-year-old woman who was making her way home after finishing her shift at a local bar.
The woman was walking through New Walk when Emilov suddenly appeared and forcibly dragged her into nearby bushes.
There, he gagged her and subjected her to a sexual assault.
The attack was interrupted when a group of passersby happened to walk past, causing Emilov to flee the scene in a panic.
Following the assault, the victim promptly reported the incident to the police.
An investigation was launched by the force’s Signal team, which meticulously examined CCTV footage from the area.
The footage clearly showed Emilov fleeing from the scene, running through Leicester city centre before eventually returning to his residence on Rosebery Street in North Evington.
The footage also captured him discarding the cloth he had used to gag the victim, which later proved to be a key piece of evidence.
Further investigations revealed that Emil Emilov had left the United Kingdom shortly after the attack.
However, he returned to the UK on 6 November and was immediately detained upon his arrival at Luton Airport.
A DNA sample taken from Emilov matched genetic material found on the cloth used to gag the victim, as well as on her tights, linking him directly to the assault.
In December of the previous year, Emilov pleaded guilty to one count of assault by penetration, acknowledging his involvement in the crime.
The case was brought before Leicester Crown Court, where, on Thursday 18 April, Emilov was sentenced to 88 months in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to be placed on the sex offender register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and preventing further harm to the community.
