ELLIOT WRIGHT, FORMER BEDFORDSHIRE POLICE OFFICER, JAILED FOR SEXUAL EXPLOITATION OF TEEN GIRLS IN BEDFORDSHIRE AND HERTFORDSHIRE
A former police officer from Bedfordshire, Elliot Wright, aged 29 and hailing from Henlow, has been sentenced to over three years in prison for engaging in the sexual exploitation of vulnerable teenage girls through social media platforms.The case has sent shockwaves through the local communities, highlighting the disturbing abuse of authority and trust by someone who was supposed to uphold the law.
Wright, who was employed as a member of the Roads Policing Unit at the time, orchestrated a meeting with a teenage girl who was considered at risk after completing her shift on March 21 of this year.
The girl, who is from Hertfordshire, was under a deprivation of liberty order designed to protect her from harm.
Her care home staff noticed her getting into a vehicle and promptly contacted the police, concerned for her safety.
Law enforcement officers responded swiftly, tracking down Wright’s vehicle near his residence in Bedfordshire shortly after the incident.
He was arrested on the spot.
During police questioning, the victim revealed that Wright had asked her to delete messages exchanged between them before his arrest.
This indicated an attempt to conceal his actions.
Following Wright’s arrest by Hertfordshire Constabulary officers, detectives launched an extensive investigation into his social media activity.
Their inquiries uncovered evidence of further potential victims, including a 16-year-old girl who had been paid by Wright in exchange for sexual images.
The investigation revealed that Wright was aware of her vulnerable state and her financial difficulties, often needing money to buy food.
On one occasion, he offered her £3 for explicit images, demonstrating a pattern of predatory behavior.
Wright was subsequently charged with multiple serious offenses.
He was accused of inciting the sexual exploitation of a child, arranging the sexual exploitation of a child, abducting a child in care, paying for sexual services from a minor, and perverting the course of justice.
An additional charge of misconduct in a public office, which Wright denied, was also brought against him but was ordered to remain on his criminal record.
Immediately following his arrest, Wright was suspended from Bedfordshire Police.
His vetting was revoked, and he was dismissed from the force in July of the same year.
The legal proceedings culminated in a court hearing at St Albans Crown Court, where Wright pleaded guilty to all charges.
In sentencing, a High Court judge imposed a total term of 42 months in prison.
The sentence was structured so that Wright will serve half of it behind bars, with the remaining half on license.
Additionally, the court granted him an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, restricting his future contact with minors and aiming to prevent any further harm.
This case underscores the grave dangers posed by individuals abusing positions of authority and trust, especially when targeting vulnerable minors through digital platforms.
