BANBURY WOMAN SENTENCED AFTER FATAL DOG ATTACK INVOLVING XL BULLIES
Roberts, the daughter of Rachel Roberts, a puppy breeder from Pembrokeshire, admitting guilt to two counts of possessing a fighting dog and one count of being responsible for a dog dangerously out of control, following a fatal dog attack involving Winnie, a crossbreed schnauzer/poodle, in a field near Hanwell by Banbury on March 26, 2026, shortly before 11 am.At the time, she was walking her two registered XL Bully dogs in the same area.
Neither dog was wearing a muzzle nor on a lead, violating legal requirements.
One of her dogs pursued and attacked Winnie, who tragically died on the spot.
Both XL Bullies were humanely euthanized.
Four additional charges, including allowing the dogs in a public space without a muzzle or lead, were dropped.
Roberts was sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for a year, with requirements for rehabilitation and mental health treatment.
She is also prohibited from owning a dog for seven years, with the ban lasting until October 2032.
