COUNDON CARE WORKER TOOK ADVANTAGE OF A DRUNKEN TEENAGER
A seasoned care worker who exploited a drunken teenage girl has been sentenced to prison after sexually assaulting her.Eghe Egbon, residing on Hambleton Road in Coundon, neglected the victim’s attempts to fend off his unwanted advances and assaulted her while she was unconscious on his sofa.
According to evidence presented at Teesside Crown Court, the 54-year-old was fondling her and attempting to kiss her when the girl and her friend arrived at his home.
Prosecutor Robert Mochrie stated that Egbon had tested her boundaries prior to the assault while she was unable to resist.
He explained that footage from the defendant’s phone appeared to show the girl unconscious, and that she later recalled Egbon climbing on top of her, kissing her, and humping her—at which point he committed the sexual assault.
In her victim impact statement, the woman revealed she had to leave her job due to the profound effect the assault had on her life.
Following a trial, Egbon was convicted of sexual assault by penetration on December 10, 2023.
Defense solicitor Neil Jones described his client as an experienced care worker who had recently moved to the area from London, noting, "This is a spectacular fall from grace for a man who has not seen the inside of a prison before." Judge Richard Bennett sentenced Egbon to five years in prison for abusing the intoxicated teenager.
The judge remarked, “It was while she was incapacitated that you began to kiss her, simulate sexual intercourse, and ultimately sexually assault her.
Earlier in the evening, she made it clear she did not want any physical or sexual contact, yet you disregarded her wishes.” Egbon was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was subjected to a ten-year restraining order to ensure the victim’s safety.
