EDWARD MASON FROM KIDDERMINSTER CAUGHT WITH CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN WORCESTER

In November 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving Edward Mason, a 48-year-old resident of Clent Avenue, Kidderminster, who was found to have downloaded and possessed indecent images of children being sexually abused.

The case was brought before Worcester Crown Court, where Mason faced serious charges related to his possession and creation of such illicit material.

On April 24 of the previous year, police officers executed a search warrant at Mason’s home in Kidderminster.

During the raid, authorities seized multiple electronic devices, including Hitachi and Toshiba hard drives, which were believed to contain evidence of his illegal activities.

A thorough examination of these devices revealed a disturbing collection of images and videos.

Specifically, law enforcement officials uncovered a total of 49 still images and two videos classified as Category A, the most severe level of indecency, depicting penetrative sexual acts involving children.

Additionally, there were 34 still images categorized as Category B, with no accompanying videos, and 163 still images along with one video classified as Category C.

The images showed young girls aged between five and ten in some cases, while others depicted girls aged between 12 and 16.

Prosecutor Christopher Lester explained that Mason was interviewed twice by police.

During his second interview, Mason fully admitted to possessing the illegal images, providing authorities with a frank account of his actions.

The case did not reveal any additional aggravating factors beyond the possession itself, and the images were deemed illegal due to their explicit content involving minors.

Legal guidelines specify that the possession of Category A images can result in a sentence ranging from 26 weeks to three years in prison.

Defense attorney Nick Berry presented character references on Mason’s behalf, emphasizing that his client posed a low risk of re-offending.

Mason was employed at a mail processing facility and earned approximately £14,000 annually.

During the sentencing hearing, Recorder Sally Hancox addressed Mason directly, stating that such images could not be classified as child pornography because the children depicted had no agency or choice in the matter.

She expressed her horror at the nature of the images, saying, “These are images of children being sexually abused somewhere in the world by an adult or adults.

That they face this type of abuse makes the blood run cold.

That people would film it and photograph it lets the heart sink even lower.

That people such as yourself choose, in your private time, to view images of this nature in simple terms beggars belief.” As part of his sentence, Mason was ordered to complete a three-year community order, which includes participation in an accredited program designed to address sexual offending.

The judge emphasized that this order would serve both to challenge Mason’s behavior and to aid his rehabilitation.

Additionally, Mason was issued a seven-year sexual harm prevention order, restricting his contact with children and requiring him to notify his offender manager of any changes in his circumstances, such as a new address.

Failure to comply with these conditions would constitute a criminal offense.

Furthermore, Mason was ordered to pay costs amounting to £535, payable by February 3 of the following year.

The court’s decision underscores the seriousness with which such offenses are treated and highlights the ongoing risks posed by individuals involved in the possession of child abuse images.
