DRUNK MAN THREATENS GIRLFRIEND WITH DEATH IN INVERURIE COURT
A man named Edward Campbell, aged 33, caused significant fear and distress to his girlfriend by threatening her with violence and making direct threats of harm. The Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard how Campbell became 'instantly aggressive' after waking at his girlfriend's home in Port Elphinstone, Inverurie, on October 23.
During the incident, he repeatedly threatened to kill her and told her to 'hang up the phone or you die tonight', in addition to calling her degrading names such as 'bam', 'grass', and a 'slut'.
The woman, feeling threatened, called the police, and while on the phone, Campbell continued his aggressive behavior.
Police arrived to find Campbell shouting and screaming, and the woman was described as 'visibly upset and physically shaking'.
Campbell was arrested, and under caution, he admitted to causing the incident by stating, 'I did kick off but only because I’ve been drinking spirits'.
He pleaded guilty to one charge of causing fear or alarm and threatening violence.
The court considered his background, with his solicitor describing him as 'an isolated and angry young man' who now presents himself more mature but needs to address ongoing issues.
The sheriff acknowledged the seriousness of the offense and the impact on the victim but decided an immediate custodial sentence was unnecessary.
Instead, Campbell was sentenced to a community payback order with 12 months of supervision and ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid community work, reflecting an appropriate alternative to jail.
