November 2012 Man admits sex assault on girl, 12 A Co Antrim man, who had been on trial for grooming a schoolgirl, has admitted carrying out a sexual assault on her. Edward Stuart Cambridge, 21, pleaded guilty to the charge at Belfast Crown Court on Wednesday – a day after the jury had been discharged from hearing his trial. The sex assault on the 12-year-old victim happened on a date unknown between 31 December 2010 and 1 February 2011. Following Cambridge’s guilty plea, a lawyer for the prosecution applied to have a further count of sexual assault and a charge of meeting a child after sexual grooming “left on the books”. The court had previously heard that the 21-year-old had got the girl’s mobile phone number and began texting her, before he asked her to meet him at his mother’s home where he kissed her. Cambridge’s alleged relationship with the girl was said to have ended when text messages were discovered on her phone. Cambridge was released on continuing bail until his sentencing next month, after probation reports have been completed. But Judge Gordon Kerr QC warned him not to take that as any indicator of the final outcome.
